- Highlighting / Selecting: Highlighting (or Selecting) an object or area of text is typically the first step to making a change to that item. When an item is highlighted (or selected) the next action (whether it be formatting, deleting, copying, or cutting) will typically only affect that item.
On PCs, the Delete key generally removes the character immediately under the cursor (or to the right of the insertion point), or the highlighted text or object.
